The trio of student-athletes are standouts both in the athletic arena and in the classroom

RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2011) -- Three Franklin Pierce University student-athletes, men's basketball's Kinard Dozier (Dedham, Mass.), women's basketball's Marielle Giroud (Martigny, Switzerland) and ice hockey's Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.), were recently named to the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Winter All-Academic Teams for their respective sport.

To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR).

Dozier, a senior majoring in accounting, had a strong final season in a Ravens' uniform in 2010-11. He led the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg), while ranking 17th in the league in points. Dozier shot 90-percent from the free throw line this season and ranked among the top-10 in both the league and nationally in that category. He finished his career with 1,425 points, which is 10th most in program history, while also breaking the school record for highest career free throw percentage.

Giroud, a junior majoring in biology, was named the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, while also earning a spot on the all-league first-team. She ranked among the conference leaders in numerous categories, including: scoring (10th, 14.3 ppg); rebounding (5th, 8.7 rpg); field goal percentage (13th, .481); assists (9th, 3.47 apg); free throw percentage (15th, .736); steals (7th, 2.03 spg); blocked shots (14th, 0.81 bpg); assist-to-turnover ratio (13th, 0.84); offensive rebounding (7th, 2.75 orpg); and defensive rebounding (7th, 5.97 drpg). Giroud helped guide the Ravens to a 24-8 mark this past season, while also leading the program to its fourth-straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearance.

Woodring, a senior majoring in biology, scored four goals and assisted on six others this season for 10 points, including one-game winning goal. He was one of this year's senior leaders who helped guide the Ravens to the most wins in a single season (overall and conference) in program history. The team finished third in the conference regular season standings, which was its highest finish ever.
