WORCESTER, Mass (September 28, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University football program headed out away from the friendly confines of Sodexo Field for their first road game as an NCAA Division II program on Saturday. Pierce traveled to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College and lost by a 53-6 score. The loss sends the crimson and gray to 1-3, 0-2 NE10 while the Greyhounds improve to 3-1, 2-0 NE10.

Pierce allowed 53 points in the first half to Assumption, winners of two of the last four NE10 Championships. Their defense stiffened in the second half holding the hosts to zero points while the Ravens scored their lone touchdown, a 10-yard run by junior wide receiver Lo Jackson Jr. (Columbia, S.C.).

Three quarterbacks took snaps for Assumption and Easton Turner who completed 6-of-11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown led them. On the ground, they complied 155 yards and averaged 3.6 yards per rush. Berrell Neal carried the mail for 85 yards on 12 attempts (7.1 avg.) and two TDs.

For Pierce, Jackson compiled 47 yards on six carries and the only touchdown. Freshman quarterback Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass.) threw for 79 yards and freshman wide receiver Sekou Veillard (Davie, Fla.) hauled in a game-high four catches for 32 yards.

On the defensive end, freshman linebacker Najiere Hutchinson (Neptune, N.J.) racked up seven tackles to lead FPU. Freshman defensive lineman Chris Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) recorded a sack for the second straight game to go along with three tackles.

Assumption scored immediately on their opening drive using a 50-yard kickoff return that resulted in a one-yard run by Turner to move ahead 7-0. Pierce went three and out and Joseph Kellum ran in from five yards away from the plane to increase their lead to 14-0. On the ensuing kickoff, the Ravens fumbled the ball and Keelan Thomas recovered the rock setting up the Greyhounds on the Ravens 14 yard line. Six plays later, Assumption punched in another rushing TD to lead 21-0.

The Greyhounds tacked on another touchdown, but the extra point attempt failed as they held a 27-0 lead after the first quarter of play. Assumption kept on driving down the field totaling 26 points in the second quarter to hold a 53 point lead at the break.

FPU got on the board late in the fourth quarter as they stopped Assumption on fourth down when Yeboah sacked the Greyhounds QB on fourth and sixth. The Ravens got the ball on the Assumption 45 yard line and pounded the rock down the field with the key play being a Jackson Jr. 27 yard rush on fourth and 14. On the next play, Jackson Jr. made a house call for his first career collegiate touchdown.

The Ravens remain on the road as they travel to Southern Connecticut State University for a 12:00 p.m. contest next Saturday, October 5th.
