HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game got off to a slow start for both offenses, as Kyle Salvati (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and Gabe Knudsen were both dealing through the first few innings. Both pitchers did not allow a hit through the first 3 innings, as the only baserunner for either team came on a leadoff walk in the first inning, only to get eliminated by a double play.
- The pitching duel was put to a halt in the bottom of the fourth, as Michael Quiros (Springfield, Mass.) rips a solo homer over the right field fence, getting the Ravens out to a 1-0 lead.
- As Salvati continued to deal on the mound, Knudsen ran into some more trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning. After recording the first out, he went on to hit and walk the next three batters, loading the bases for Julien Monks (Pacé, Franc). "Frenchie" sent a grand slam over the left field fence to get the Ravens out 5-0.
- After a quiet couple of innings, the Ravens woke right back up with a two run homer by Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.), giving the Ravns a 7-0 cussion.
- Salvati delt all the way until the ninth inning, until he gave up a solo home run and another baserunner. That is when head coach, Mike Chambers, signaled to Sean Foody to record the final out and secure the 7-1 victory.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS
- Both teams had 6 hits apiece, but the Ravens 3 long balls were the medicine to success.
- Monks led the team with his grand slam, tallying four RBI's.
- Salvati had 4 strikeouts allowing only 1 home run with the late home run in his 8.2 innings of work with the win.
