Game 1:

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons got the scoring started in the first inning when Nick Pappas grounded into a fielder's choice allowing Tommy Bolton to score from third.
  • The Ravens were able to respond in the third after Joey Acker (Upton, Mass.) hit into a fielder's choice giving Julien Monks (Pace, France) to even up the score at 1-1. The Ravens were then able to take the lead in the third after another fielder's choice off the bat of Elias Meredith (Philadelphia, Pa.) driving in Michael Quiros (Springfield, Mass.), making it 2-1.
  • In the sixth, Pappas continued to stay hot at the plate hitting and RBI triple down the left field line to tie the game up once again at two apiece. The Ravens then committed a throwing error allowing a run to cross the plate giving the lead back to the Falcons, 3-2. In the seventh, a sacrifice fly gave the Falcons an insurance run now making it 4-2.
  • The Ravens added a run in the eighth when Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) doubled to right driving in Ivan Arias (Boston, Mass.). In the ninth, Quiros sent a deep fly over the right field wall tying the game at 4-4 and forcing extras. In the thirteenth, Acker broke the stalemate with a two RBI single to pull the Ravens ahead of the Falcons, 6-4. Meredith hit a sacrifice fly in the inning, giving the Ravens some insurance, 7-4 and securing the game one win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

Game 2:

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game started as a pitcher's duel between the Ravens Trey Rivera III (Hamden, Conn.) and the Falcons Ryan Glupe until in the third when Bolton singled up the middle driving in the first run of the game. However, the Ravens quickly responded in the fourth when Hewlette was able to cause some chaos on the base paths which lead to an error giving the chance for Curt Boyd (Braintree, Mass.) to score and tie the game up at one. Monks later in the inning singled home Hewlette giving the Ravens the go-ahead run. Rivera was able to go the distance for the Ravens only giving up the lone run and allowing three hits.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Franklin Pierce managed five hits in the second game.
  • The Ravens committed one error while Bentley committed three.
