Game 1:

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southern Connecticut State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Owls struck first in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on a fielding error that allowed an unearned run to cross the plate.
  • A pivotal moment came in the second inning when Chris Fedeli tripled to right center, clearing the bases with three RBIs and extending the Owls' lead to 4-0. A wild pitch later in the inning allowed Fedeli to score, making it 5-0.
  • The Ravens got on the board in the third inning when Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) singled to second base, driving in Brycen Tetler to cut the deficit to 5-1. However, Franklin Pierce struggled to string together consistent offense against Southern Connecticut's pitching.
  • Two costly errors in the fourth inning allowed Southern Connecticut to tack on two more unearned runs, widening the gap to 7-1. Franklin Pierce mounted a brief rally in the sixth, as Devin Kulas drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Ivan Arias scored on a defensive miscue to make it 7-3. However, the Owls responded immediately in the seventh, adding two more insurance runs to seal the 9-3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Owls wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI single by Dillon.
  • The Ravens fought back in the fifth inning, tying the game at 2-2 when Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, Mass.) ripped a double down the left field line, driving in Arias and Elias Meredith.
  • However, the tie was short-lived as Southern Connecticut exploded for a six-run bottom half of the fifth, taking advantage of an error and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. Gruttadauria delivered the biggest blow of the inning, a two-RBI single to left field that extended the lead to 8-2.
