Ravens Swept at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (3/8/2025) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens baseball team had a rough time handling the Jefferson University Rams on Saturday afternoon, getting swept in the doubleheader in non-conference action.

Game 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ravens got the scoring started in the top of the 2nd inning. Junior left fielder Joey Acker (Upton, Mass.) laced a single to right field to score senior third baseman Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) giving the Ravens the 1-0 lead.
- The Rams responded in the bottom of the 2nd with a sacrifice fly to tie the score 1-1.
- The Rams took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning. A single to right field scored 2 runs and they also scored another with a fielder's choice to take the 4-1 lead.
- The Ravens clawed back at the deficit in the top of the 4th inning. Redshirt junior right fielder Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) launched a solo homer to left field to cut the deficit down to 4-2.
- The momentum carried over into the top of the 5th inning for the Ravens. Senior second baseman Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) grounded out into a double play but scored redshirt sophomore catcher Brycen Tetler (Plymouth, Mass.) to make it 4-3 Rams. The Ravens tied the score 4-4 in the inning as junior first baseman Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, Mass.) ripped a single into left field to score sophomore center fielder Jayden Villanueva (Lowell, Mass.).
- The rest of the game didn't treat the Ravens kindly. A 2-run homer for the Rams gave them the 6-4 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. Then, they added 2 runs with a sacrifice bunt and a run off an error in the bottom of the 6th inning to go up 8-4.
- The Ravens added a final run in the top of the 7th inning. Anthony Marcano smoked an RBI double to left field to score Jayden Villanueva and cut the deficit down to 8-5, but the Rams held onto the lead and secured the win in the first game of the twin bill.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
- The Rams outhit the Ravens 11-8.
- The Ravens committed 2 errors compared to 3 from the Rams.
- Sophomore pitcher Niklas Pavia (Bolton, Mass.) suffered the loss on the mound for the Ravens. He pitched 5 innings, allowing 9 hits, 6 earned runs, a home run, walking 1 batter, and striking out 6 batters.
Game 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ravens had a tough time handling the Rams in Game 2. The Rams struck early with 2 runs of an RBI single to left field to put them up 2-0.
- The Rams then added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a pair of RBI singles to give them the 5-0 lead.
- 2 more RBI singles and a 3-run homer for the Rams cracked the game wide open as they took the 10-0 lead.
- The Ravens got their first run of the game as Anthony Marcano scored on an error by the catcher to make it 10-1 Rams.
- The Rams added 4 more runs in the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings to take the dominant 14-1 lead.
- The Ravens got another run in the top of the 6th. Freshman center fielder Jacob Roque (Wilmington, Mass.) reached first on an error by the shortstop and scored junior pitcher Drew DeLucia (Medway, Mass.) acting as a pinch hitter to make it 14-2 Rams.

- The Ravens committed 2 errors compared to 4 from the Rams.
- Junior pitcher Kyle Salvati (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) took the loss on the mound. He pitched 3 innings, allowing 9 hits, 10 earned runs, a home run, walking 2 batters, and striking out 4 batters.
