Baseball: Ravens Take Down Saint Michael's for Fifth Straight Win; Hold First Place in NE10 Standings

RINDGE, N.H (4/30/2024) – With the Northeast-10 playoffs on the horizon, Franklin Pierce Baseball team remains piping hot after the team secured its fifth straight win over Saint Michael's College 10-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Franklin Pierce scored seven runs in the bottom of the second. Graduate outfielder Eli Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) hit a three-run home run for his sixth of the season to make it 3-0. Junior transfer infielder Kiobel Lugo (Boston, MA) had a two RBI double, scoring graduate infielder Ian Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) and sophomore outfielder Joey Acker (Upton, MA) to give the Ravens a 5-0 lead. Next, sophomore transfer first baseman Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, MA) had an RBI triple, scoring Lugo to make it 6-0 Franklin Pierce. Senior outfielder Hunter Wilichoski (Hamilton, MA) had an RBI single, scoring DeAndrade to give Franklin Pierce a 7-0 lead. 

• In the bottom of the fourth, Lugo had an RBI double, scoring Acker to make it 8-0 Ravens. Then, Wilichoski had an RBI double, scoring Lugo to make it 9-0. 

• In the bottom of the seventh, graduate transfer catcher Christopher Roberti (New Fairfield, CT) had an RBI sacrifice fly to center field, scoring senior infielder Connor Smalley (West Sayville, NY) to make it 10-0 Franklin Pierce. 

• In the top of the ninth, St. Michael's got on the board when freshman Tad Giardina hit a two-run home run to cut the Ravens lead to eight. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

• Graduate pitcher Chaz Powell (Stamford, CT) pitched eight scoreless innings, gave up four hits, two walks, and struck out six batters. Graduate pitcher Hunter Reynolds (Marlborough, MA) closed out the game and gave up three hits, two runs, one walk, one home run, and struck out no batters. 

• Franklin Pierce outhit St. Michael's 11-7. Both teams had two errors. 

• Acker went 2 for 4 and scored two runs. Lugo went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and scored two runs. Wilichoski went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and scored a run. 

  

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS

• The Ravens remain at home as they begin a three-game weekend series against their intra-state rival, Southern New Hampshire, on Friday, May 3. Game one is at noon, followed by game two at 3 p.m. The final game of the weekend series is on Saturday, May 4, at 5 p.m.
