Baseball Disrupted by 8-0 Loss at Le Moyne College to Open NE10 Championship Weekend

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (5/11/23) – After decisively downing AIC in the NE10 Championship Tournament Quarterfinal round on Tuesday evening, the Northeast No. 2 Franklin Pierce University baseball team ran into a tougher challenge against the Southwest No. 1 seed Le Moyne College, falling to the Dolphins by an 8-0 score.

With the loss, the Ravens drop to 31-16 (17-8 NE10) while the host Dolphins improved to 31-17 (15-6 NE10).

Le Moyne set the tone early in the bottom of the first with a three-run homer to deep left-center field by senior Zach Brush. Then, jumping ahead to the third inning, the Dolphins made it a 4-0 game on an RBI infield ground out by graduate Nick Nevins, scoring fellow grad Drew Carroll on the play. Over the course of the first three innings, the Ravens would be limited to just one hit as the Dolphins rallied behind strong pitching from senior starter Sam DiGeorge.

Play would continue through four consecutive scoreless innings between the two clubs, with the Ravens only managing two more hits across that span. On two occasions, the Ravens would get a runner stationed at first with just one out, which were the likes of senior Jake Miller (Waltham, Mass.) and graduate Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.), but neither would make it home as both were left on with double plays to end the inning.

The Dolphins exploded for four more runs in the bottom of the eighth, putting the game well out of reach for the visiting Ravens. Junior right hander Kyle Roche (Braintree, Mass.) started the game for the Ravens, and took the loss (8-2) after giving up four earned runs on six hits and two walks, striking out nine Le Moyne batters through seven innings of work. Sophomore Sean Yoest (Foxborough, Mass.) finished the final two innings for Pierce, and additionally surrendered four runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

The action is not over yet for the No. 2 Ravens, who will now face the loser of this afternoon's Southwest No. 3 Pace University and Northeast No. 4 Bentley University matchup, as NE10 Championship Weekend continues on Friday, May 12th with a game times to be determined.
