Pierce Baseball Sends Five to Northeast-10 All-Conference Teams With One Major Award

MANSFIELD, Mass. (5/9/23) - The Franklin Pierce University baseball team had five student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 All-Conference teams, which included one major award winner as announced by the league offices on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior starting pitcher Kyle Roche (Braintree, Mass.) and graduate reliever Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) were announced as All-Conference First Team selections, while senior infielder Ian Battipaglia (Cheshire, Conn.) made both Second Team and All-Defensive Team. Another senior starter, Hunter Reynolds (Marlborough, Mass.), continued the list as a Third Team selection. For Battipaglia, it is his third round of NE10 All-Conference Honors, while Roche is now a two-time recipient.

Freshman starting pitcher Drew DeLucia (Medway, Mass.) rounded out the Ravens' All-Conference selections, with a selection to the NE10 All-Rookie Team along with being names the Northeast Division's Rookie Pitcher of the Year.

Roche was driving force on the mound for the Ravens this season, sporting a 3.53 ERA while tied for first in the conference lead in strikeouts (87). The Raven junior made 11 starts and tossed 63.2 innings, and averaged 12.30 strikeouts per nine innings with an 8-1 overall record. Back on March 6th, Roche was also named the NE10's Pitcher of the Week.

Graduate Brian Hadden completed the regular season ranked 2nd in the Northeast-10 in saves (7), which was also good for the team lead amongst pitchers. Through 13 relief appearances, Hadden went 2-1 overall with 17 strikeouts with a team-best 1.65 ERA and only three earned runs allowed all season. Hadden also saw some time at the plate this season, where he connected for 14 hits with one home run, eight runs batted in and a .275 batting average.

Battipaglia was the Ravens' top threat at the plate this season, displaying a .389 batting average with a team-leading 63 hits. Combined with his 33 walks, Battipaglia also sported an on-base percentage of .490, and slugged .623 with 4 home runs and 33 runs batted in through 162 total at-bats. Battipaglia also ranked first on the roster in runs scored (51), and second in stolen bases (23). As the team's primary shortstop, he hauled in 62 total putouts with 123 assists.

Reynolds completed the regular season ranked 2nd on the team in both wins (7) and strikeouts (57), and pitched a team-best five complete games out of his 11 starts on the mound. In total, Reynolds worked through 60.1 innings and boasted a 7-3 overall record, with an average of 8.50 strikeouts per nine innings.

As the lone major award winning on the list, Drew DeLucia had a dependable rookie campaign on the mound for the Ravens. The NE10 Northeast Rookie Pitcher of the Year fanned 44 batters in 13 total appearances, including two starts, and rounded out the regular season with a 5.45 earned run average with an 11.42 strikeouts per nine inning mark. During the same time span, DeLucia pieced together a 2-2 record with a pair of saves.

Pierce baseball prepares for the Northeast-10's Championship Weekend, hosted by the Southwest Division's top squad Le Moyne College. The Northeast No. 2 Ravens will face off with the No. 1 Dolphins on Thursday, May 11th at 11:00 AM.
