Northeast-10 All-Conference Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (May 12, 2022) -- It was six All-Northeast-10 Conference selections for the Franklin Pierce University baseball team, as the league announced its end-of-season awards on Wednesday afternoon. A trio of sophomores highlighted things for the Ravens, as second baseman Randy Flores (Brooklyn, N.Y.), shortstop Ian Battipaglia (Cheshire, Conn.) and right-hander Kyle Roche (Braintree, Mass.) were all named to the All-NE10 First Team. Franklin Pierce has had at least one All-NE10 First Team selection every season since 2001, and has now had multiple First Team honorees in 19 of the 21 seasons during that stretch.

In addition to the three First Team selections, the Ravens also put three on the All-NE10 Third Team as well: graduate student third baseman Charles Lebron (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior center fielder Joel Lara (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore right-hander Chaz Powell (Stamford, Conn.). It is the second straight All-NE10 selection for Battipaglia, Flores and Lara, who were named to the First, Second and Third Teams, respectively, a year ago. The other three Ravens each earned their first career all-conference honor.

Battipaglia and Flores are the one-two on the Ravens, in that order, in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as the former slashed .356/.454/.583 in 163 at-bats (58-for-163), while the latter put together a .338/.425/.566 line over 136 at-bats (46-for-136). Battipaglia hit 13 doubles and clubbed a team-leading eight home runs, while scoring 42 runs and driving in 44. Meanwhile, Flores knocked 11 doubles, one triple and seven home runs, scored 35 times, drove in 40, and stole 18 bases in 22 attempts.

Among NE10 leaders, Battipaglia is inside the top 15 in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, while Flores slipped inside the top 15 in slugging as well. The pair are both inside the top 10 in the league in runs scored, while Battipaglia also cracks the top 10 in hits, doubles and runs batted in.

Meanwhile, Roche pitched his way into the ace role for the Ravens this spring. Over 11 starts totaling a team-best 69.1 innings, he has allowed 19 runs (13 earned) on 47 hits and walked just 24 against 87 strikeouts (11.29 strikeouts per nine innings). It has all added up to a 1.69 earned-run average and a 5-2 record for the right-hander, with one complete game. Roche is the NE10's ERA leader and also ranks third in strikeouts, fourth in strikeouts per nine innings and seventh in innings pitched.

Among the Third Team honorees, Lebron had the gaudiest numbers, as he made his way inside the top 25 in the NE10 in batting average (.329), slugging percentage (.409), hits (52), home runs (7) and RBI (34). Lara posted a .295/.391/.438 slash line over 146 at-bats (43-for-146), scored 42 runs, stole 31 bases in 32 attempts and is regarded as one of the strongest defensive center fielders in the league, with just one error in 91 chances. Powell made eight starts on the mound and posted a 2.70 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 46.2 innings of work.

The Ravens (28-15) were eliminated from the NE10 Championship in the first round on Tuesday night, and are awaiting Sunday night's selection show to see if they have done enough to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
