Baseball to Send Three to NEIBA All-Star Game

RINDGE, N.H. (May 31, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University baseball team has had three players selected to participate in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game, as announced on Wednesday by the NEIBA. This year’s game is scheduled for noon on Thursday, May 31, at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I.
Representing Franklin Pierce on the field will be graduate student first baseman Mike Coggeshall (Shrewsbury, Mass.), senior third baseman John Friday (Southborough, Mass.) and senior center fielder Adam Chase (Bridgewater, Mass.).
The three Ravens will join other All-Star selections from Division II and III programs from across New England to form the College Division Team. Their opponents will be the University Division Team, composed of selections from New England's Division I programs.
Coggeshall appeared in 46 games for the Ravens, primarily at first base, and slashed .351/.461/.476 to compile a .937 OPS over 168 at-bats (59-for-168). He hit 13 doubles, one triple and two home runs, scored 27 times and drove in 30 runs, while drawing 33 walks against 21 strikeouts. Coggeshall ranks fourth in the NE10 in on-base percentage, sixth in batting average and 16th in slugging percentage, while the 33 walks are sixth in the league.
Friday played in 44 of the team’s 49 games this spring, primarily at third base, and posted a slash line of .349/.449/.548, for an OPS of .997 over 166 at-bats (58-for-166). He hit 16 doubles, five home runs and one triple, scored 30 times and drove in 23 runs. He drew 26 walks against just 16 strikeouts on the year. The 16 doubles is currently tied for fourth in the NE10. Friday also currently ranks fourth in the league in slugging percentage, eighth in batting average and ninth in on-base percentage.
Chase played in all 49 games, splitting time between right field and center field, and posted a .314/.414/.492 slash line over 191 at-bats (60-for-191). He recorded 22 extra-base hits on 14 doubles, four triples and four home runs, scored 39 runs and drove in 40. He drew 25 walks against 32 strikeouts. Chase’s slugging percentage currently ranks 11th in the NE10, while the 14 doubles are tied for ninth.
The Ravens (33-15-1) returned to the NCAA Championship this spring for the 14th time in school history. The 2018 campaign marked 17 straight seasons of 30 or more wins for the program.
