Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (April 6, 2016) – Junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team has been named his sport's Sport Excellence award winner by the Northeast-10 Conference, as announced on Wednesday by the Conference office. In addition, Holmes, along with women's basketball senior forward Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) and men's ice hockey sophomore forward Jonathan Haun (Buffalo, N.Y.), has earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors. The selected Ravens were among 62 student-athletes across seven sports honored by the Northeast-10.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives. In addition, one honoree in each sport is selected as the Northeast-10's Sport Excellence award winner in that sport.

Holmes collects the eighth Sport Excellence award earned by Franklin Pierce student-athletes, and is the first to earn the honor since volleyball's Natasha Ray '14 for the fall 2013 season. For Holmes, it is also his second Academic All-Conference selection in indoor track, and the fourth of his career overall, as he has also been honored once each in cross country and outdoor track. Charette earns her second straight Academic All-Conference selection, while Haun is honored for the first time.

Holmes is in his sixth semester at Franklin Pierce and carries a 3.80 grade-point average as a graphic communications major. This winter, Holmes earned USTFCCCA All-East Region honors in the 5000 meters, as well as for his role in the distance medley relay squad, which qualified for the NCAA Championships, where it finished 12th. At the Northeast-10 Championships, Holmes ran the lead leg on the 4x800-meter relay and the distance medley relay, both of which captured Northeast-10 titles.

Charette is in her final semester in Rindge and currently owns a 3.58 GPA as a criminal justice major. She is a three-time All-Conference selection, including All-Northeast-10 First Team nods in both her junior and senior seasons. During her final campaign, Charette averaged 18.1 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game. She finished her career third in program history in scoring with 1945 career points.

Haun is in his third semester as a Raven and has put together a 3.77 GPA as an accounting-finance major. He has been selected to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for each semester he has been eligible. On the ice this year, Haun played in all 22 games and was the team's leading scorer, with 13 points on eight goals and five assists.
