Vilmont, Charette, Holmes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

RINDGE, N.H. (April 8, 2015) -- Three Franklin Pierce University basketball players have been named to the winter 2014-15 Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team for their respective sports, as announced last week by the Conference office. Women's Basketball junior Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.), men's basketball senior Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) and men's track & field sophomore Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) were all honored. The three student-athletes were among 66 student-athletes across seven sports honored by the Northeast-10

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives.

Although each no stranger to Conference honors, this is the first time Charette and Vilmont are earning this accolade.

Currently sporting a 3.58 grade-point average as a criminal justice major, Charette led the team with 526 points for the season, averaging 6.7 rebounds per game, she had 172 rebounds total for the season. She had six double-doubles, and earned her 1000th point earlier this season. She is currently ranked third in the NE-10 for points per game, 17.5, while also ranking third for field goal percentage 52.9%.

Vilmont, a sports and recreation management major, earning a 3.33 grade-point average wrapped up his senior season going down as one of the most decorated players in program history. He finishes a senior campaign leading the team in points scoring 567 total, averaging 20.3 points per game in his 28 games played.. He shot 44% from the three-point range sinking in 111 for the season. He also grabbed 193 rebounds total averaging 6.9 rebounds per game, and blocking 28 shots total.

Holmes, a graphic communications major with a 3.88 grade-point average, ran the lead leg on a pair of title-winning relay squads at the Northeast-10 Championship, as the Ravens claimed the crown in the distance medley relay and the 4x800-meter relay. Individually, he ran the sixth-fastest time in the Northeast-10 in the 800 meters during indoor season (1:54.03), a mark he used to finish 13th at the NEICAAA Championships in the event. Holmes ran the anchor leg of the 4x800 at New Englands, which finished 15th, and the third leg of the DMR at New Englands, which placed 18th.
