Men's & Women's Basketball & Ice Hockey Programs to Host Breast Cancer Awareness Day this Saturday

EVERYONE WEAR PINK!!! All money raised will benefit the Norris Cotton Cancer Center of Keene

RINDGE, N.H. (February 9, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University Department of Athletics and the men's basketball, women's basketball and ice hockey programs will be helping the fight against breast cancer this Saturday during an exciting tripleheader of action. Franklin Pierce's colors are crimson and gray, but on Saturday, everyone attending the events is encouraged to wear pink to show their support of the courageous battle against the disease.

The day will begin with the men's and women's basketball doubleheader versus Saint Anselm in The Fieldhouse, beginning with the women's game at 1:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3:30 p.m. The day will conclude with the ice hockey team taking on Assumption at 7 p.m. in the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena on the campus of The Winchendon School in Winchendon, Mass.

Throughout the day, Franklin Pierce Athletics will be helping to raise funds for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in the Kingsbury Pavilion of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene, N.H. During the basketball games, employees, patients and survivors from the center, along with various Ravens student-athletes, will be on hand collecting donations. A silent auction will be held for a pink shirt, which will be autographed by the women's basketball team. It's the same pink shirt that the team will wear during pre-game warm-ups and on the bench during Saturday's game. Raffle tickets will also be sold for various Pierce Pride items, which fans can use to show their support for the Ravens.

At halftime of the women's game, the athletics department will individually recognize survivors, patients and employees of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center for their amazing spirit and dedication to fighting breast cancer. There will also be two guest speakers talking about their experiences.

Student-athletes will be on hand at the ice hockey game soliciting donations for the center. There will be honorary jump balls and an honorary face-off at each of the three sporting events.
