Women’s Cross Country Places 11th at Anderson Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 24, 2016) – Freshmen Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) and Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) finished 37th and 38th respectively, to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team on Saturday at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College. The pair led the Ravens to an 11th-place finish among 21 teams at the meet.

Cormier paced the Ravens with a 5k time of 19:47.4, which would be the same time Zylak was credited with, as both placed in the top-40 of the 223-runner field. Behind Zylak, it was over 30 spots back to the next Franklin Pierce runner, as sophomore Sarah Hart (Glastonbury, Conn.) would finish 69th, with a time of 20:27.8.

Junior Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and junior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) rounded out the scoring five for Franklin Pierce on Saturday morning, as both finished in the top-100. The former placed 96th, with a time of 21:01.7, while the latter finished 100th, with a time of 21:05.2.

It all added up to 306 points and an 11th-place finish for the Ravens on the day. Up front, Cortland State (78 points) took home the team title by 10 points over host Roberts Wesleyan (77 points), while Daemen placed third (89 points).

Cortland State senior Mary Baughman finished first individually, with a time of 18:18.1.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they travel to the NEICAAA Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.
