Ravens Finish In Third Place at Molloy

MINEOLA, N.Y. (February 25, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team rallied for a third-place finish at the Molloy 2-Day Tournament hosted by the Sheridan Lanes in Mineola, N.Y.

The Ravens concluded the two-day weekend invitational with a 7-3 mark over their 10 baker matches to go along with a total pinfall of 8,621 for their first top-three finish during the 2017-18 campaign. On the year, the Crimson and Grey have a 44-34 overall record.

No. 11 nationally-ranked Adelphi University (9-1) took home first place by jumping from second to first. Medaille College was 6-4 and improved three spots in the rankings. The Ravens rounded out the top three programs.

Day One - Saturday

Across their five duels, the Ravens dropped a total of 4,356 pins en route to four victories over Wilmington University, Saint Thomas Aquinas College, Saint Peter's University and Long Island University – Post. The Ravens only setback came at the hands of the host Lions.

FPU's high string came in the 849-815 match four victory over Saint Peter's. The squad of Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.), Katey Comstock (Hartland, Vt.), Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.), Erin Mastropietro (Mechanicville, N.Y.) and Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.) dropped a 214 spot in game five of their series with the Peacocks.

Asta, Jenna Harrington (Barneveld, N.Y.), Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.), Mastropietro and Davies rolled the programs other 200+ game in the win versus Saint Thomas Aquinas as they knocked down a 212 score.

Day Two – Sunday

Franklin Pierce suffered one more setback on Sunday and deposited fewer pins, but climbed the team rankings anyways. As a team, the Birds averaged 170.6 a game which was the third-best mark in the tournament field.

The Ravens were victorious in both their opening matches against New Jersey City University (853-618) and Daemen College (853-826). The women's squad-high string of Sunday came in the victory versus NJCU when they racked up a 210 in game three. Pierce then fell in their next two showdowns by a combined 14 pins versus the ranked Panthers (838-849) and Medaille (843-846). However, Franklin Pierce ended strong with a big win over Wilmington (878-766), who they previously beat Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens head back out on the road this coming weekend for the Hawk Flight Invitational hosted at the King Pin Lanes in Egg Harbor, N.J.
