Missell Leads Way, Women’s Cross Country 26th to Open Season at UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 17, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team competed at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational to open its season on Saturday. The Ravens took 26th overall out of 38 teams in the varsity 5k race.

The first Raven to cross the line was graduate student Saylee Missell (Stafford Springs, Conn.), who took 85th for her 19:44 time, in her first time running the 5k distance at the collegiate level. Junior Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.) followed her in 136th for her 20:21 time. Taking 159th was senior Victoria Van Houten (Wantage, N.J.) for her 20:51 time. Behind her was junior Jasmin Baillargeon (South Wheelock, Vt.) in 164th for a 20:56 performance and graduate student Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) in 167th for a 21:01 time. Also racing was senior Meagan Foley (Beverly, Mass.), who took 168th (21:03) and graduate student Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.) in 185th (21:20).

Meanwhile, the first to cross for the Ravens in the junior varsity 5k was junior Katie Peterson (Derry, N.H.) in 74th with her 23:01 time. Fellow junior Emma Cutter (Newburyport, Mass.) was next, taking 88th for her 24:03 time.

The Ravens will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1, for the Mike Woods Invitational in Geneseo, N.Y.
