Four Players Register Double-Digit Points, Volleyball Blanks Assumption 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. (9/23/22) – The final contest of a three-game homestand for Franklin Pierce volleyball saw four separate Ravens players register at least 10 digs, boosting Pierce to a 3-0 shutout victory over Assumption University in a Northeast-10 matchup on Friday evening.

Volleyball improves to 5-6 overall following the win, as the Greyhounds move to 1-5 on their respective campaign with their third straight loss.

The Ravens came ready to play in the opening frame, jumping to a quick 14-4 lead over the Greyhounds off of an 11-1 scoring run. During that span, seniors Mariah Robles (West Covina, Calif.) and Ingrid Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) each delivered a pair of kills, with Robles adding consecutive service aces to sweeten the deal. The Raven lead would hold strong throughout the remainder of the set, with Assumption's longest scoring run stalling out at two points, leading Pierce to a 25-14 victory to open the match.

The Greyhounds played through the second set with more spunk, keeping things close throughout the majority of play. However, a tag team effort between Mariah Robles and sophomore outside hitter Hannah Hillis (San Clemente, Calif.) saw the lead restored for the Ravens late in the action, which included another pair of service aces from Robles for a 23-16 advantage. Each of the final two point needed belonged to Ingrid Lindstrom, who secured the 2-0 match lead with back-to-back kills in a 25-17 second set triumph.

In the third set, Assumption would once again strike first in what would be their only lead of the final frame (1-0). From then on, the two squads would battle to an eventual 7-7 deadlock, before the Ravens would jump ahead with six points on the next seven volleys. While working around a brief pushback from Assumption in the late stages, the Ravens registered eight more kills while taking advantage of four more errors by the Greyhounds, finalizing the 3-0 shutout with a 25-19 final set victory.

From the leaderboards, Ingrid Lindstrom led the night in total kills (12), as both Mariah Robles and senior Tessa Brandt (Foster, R.I) each collected 9 kills with 14 digs in the winning effort.

Volleyball begins a three-game Northeast-10 road trip on Tuesday, September 27th where they will head to Waltham, Massachusetts to clash with Bentley University at 7PM.
