Volleyball Overpowered In Daemen Invitational Closer, Fall To Clarion 3-0

AMHERST, N.Y. (9/5/22) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team wrapped up their trip to the Damen Volleyball Invitational with a bright and early matchup versus Pennsylvania Western University- Clarion, falling to the Golden Eagles in three sets by a final score of 3-0.

Through the two days of competition, the Ravens finish 1-2 through the tournament and move to 3-4 overall with the loss. Clarion's season remains unblemished with the win, moving to 7-0 overall following the win.  

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair early on, with Clarion managing only a three-point lead over the Ravens at 10-7. But the floodgates eventually opened for the Golden Eagles, who posted a 7-0 run midway through the frame to claim an 17-8 advantage. With the help of five service aces in the first set, Clarion coasted to a 25-12 opening victory.

The Ravens slipped slightly to begin the second frame, quickly finding themselves down 7-3. The Ravens found a way back into contention with four straight strikes, which was highlighted by senior Ingrid Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) and sophomore Hannah Hillis (San Clemente, Calif.). After establishing a close 15-14 lead over Clarion, the tables turned for Pierce as they fell victim to an 11-5 run by the Eagles, claiming the second set 25-20 for a 2-0 lead.

The third and final set was all Clarion, following nine unanswered points in the late stages to finalize the 3-0 victory over the Ravens.

Through the tournament, Ingrid Lindstrom compiled a team leading 23.5 points off of 16 kills, five solo blocks and five block assists, and was named to the Daemen All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

Volleyball has one last stop on their season opening road trip, with their next matchup coming this Saturday, September 10th where they will face Dominican (N.Y.) at 1PM.
