Women's Indoor Track & Field Opens With 2nd Place Finish at Elm City Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (12/3/22) – Things got off to a good start for the Franklin Pierce women's indoor track & field team, who officially opened the new season at Southern Connecticut State for the Elm City Challenge, finishing the two-day events placed 2nd out of nine teams.
 
Junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) had a solid afternoon on the track for the Ravens, placing 1st overall in the women's 200-meter dash with a 25.46 finishing time, while also finishing 2nd in the women's 55-meter dash (7.16) finals. In the women's 800-meter, junior Emma Cutter secured 10 points for the birds following a top-place finish, while senior Victoria Van Houten (Wantage, N.J.) and junior Jasmine Baillargeon (South Wheelock, Vt.) claimed the top-two positions in the Women's 3,000-meter race.

From the field, freshman newcomer Elizabeth Jones (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) hit the top mark in the women's pole vault, making it over a 2.90 bar height. Junior thrower Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) finished in 2nd in two separate field events for Pierce, hitting a 13.69 meter (44' 11") mark in weight throw, as well as tossing a 11.53 meter mark in the shotput.

Women's indoor will head east for the first of two trips to the University of Southern Maine, where they will compete in USM Opener on Saturday, December 10th.
