Franklin Pierce women's track & field

EASTON, Mass. (May 7, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team wrapped up its weekend at the Northeast-10 Championship, hosted by Stonehill, on Saturday. The Ravens claimed NE10 crowns in three events, as junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) was victorious in both the 200 and 400 meters, while senior Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) took first place in the high jump.

In all, Franklin Pierce wound up with 76 points, which was good enough to tie Adelphi for fifth. Up front, Southern New Hampshire claimed its first outdoor NE10 title with 176.5 points. American International (135 points) was second, while host Stonehill (129 points) took third.

Young-Bey was the brightest star of the day for the Ravens. She took first place in not only the 200-meter dash, but the 400 as well, for her times of 24.53 seconds and 55.23 seconds, respectively.

Also working hard were Brena and freshman Nouhayla Errahili (Fes, Morocco), who went 1-2 in the high jump. Brena took first after clearing 1.65 meters and just behind her was Errahili, who finished second after clearing 1.60 meters.

The 4x100 team, consisting of Errahili, Young-Bey, Brianha Bouchard and senior Saylee Missel (Stafford Springs, Conn.) took seventh for their 50.37-second time. Missel, senior Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.), Bouchard, and Young-Bey ran the 4x400, where they placed sixth for a 4:07 performance.

The steeplechase featured two times good enough to score points for the Ravens. Graduate student Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) crossed in 12:10 to take seventh, while junior Victoria Van Houten (Wantage, N.J.) followed behind her in eighth for her 12:20 time. Thompson snagged eighth in the 800-meter final for her 2:22 time.

Meanwhile, in the throwing events, sophomore Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) threw the shot put 11.69 meters to take third and earn a spot on the podium. Accompanying her was senior Samantha DeSouza (Sebago, Maine), who claimed seventh for her 11.02-meter performance. Graduate student Katerina Dajia (Aurora, Ontario) took fourth in the discus for her 36.64-meter throw, in her maiden NE10 Championship outing. DeSouza returned to take eighth for her 31.89-meter throw. Senior Julia Groll (Southington, Conn.) threw the hammer 39.73 meters to take eighth while Felton threw it 38.16 meters to take ninth.

Championship season continues next weekend, with the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Bryant, on May 13-14 in Smithfield, R.I.
