Young-Bey Through to Pair of Finals; Women’s Track & Field Seventh through Day One of NE10 Championship

EASTON, Mass. (May 6, 2022) -- Junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) has punched her ticket to the final of both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, to highlight Friday for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team on the first of two days at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Stonehill. Through the end of the first day, the Ravens are seventh, in an 11-team field.

Senior Julia Groll (Southington, Conn.) picked up a point for the Ravens in the hammer, as she finished eighth, with a throw of 39.73 meters.

Franklin Pierce had a pair score in the pole vault. Senior Stephanie Phoenix (Wallingford, Conn.) got up and over 2.91 meters to place fifth, while Teresa Deasy cleared 2.76 meters to take sixth.

Young-Bey got through to Saturday's final in the 400-meter dash, as she ran a time of 56.93 seconds to win the third heat. She doubled up to qualify for the 200-meter final as well, with a time of 25.12 seconds, which won the fourth heat and was the fastest preliminary time overall. In the 800 meters, senior Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) qualified for the final, with a run of 2:21.83, which was good enough for third in the third heat.

Franklin Pierce wrapped up the day with a medal performance from the 4x800-meter relay team, which took third, in a time of 9:43. The lineup consisted of sophomore Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.), graduate student Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.), senior Saylee Missel (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and Thompson.

Through one day, the Ravens have picked up 14 points, which puts them seventh of 11 teams which scored points. Southern New Hampshire (62 points) is out to a four-point lead over Southern Connecticut State (58 points) at the top of the field. The NE10 Championship will wrap up on Saturday at Stonehill.
