RINDGE, N.H. (September 4, 2022) -- Four different Ravens found the back of the net on Sunday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team scored twice in each half on the way to a 4-2, non-conference win over Goldey-Beacom in the team's home opener at Sodexo Field. Freshman Grace Martin (Millbury, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate goal in the 66th minute, which stood as the game-winner.

Franklin Pierce now holds a four-game unbeaten streak to start the season and stands at 3-0-1, while Goldey-Beacom falls to 1-3-0. Franklin Pierce posted advantages of 27-9 in shots and 19-6 in shots on goal in the game, and controlled possession for much of the afternoon.

The Ravens wasted little time getting things started on Sunday, as junior Anna Crapanzano (Milano, Italy) opened the scoring just 69 seconds into the proceedings. Junior Gianna Derose (Brewster, N.Y.) did some nice work on the right side to shake a defender and open a passing lane. Her centering feed found Crapanzano near the penalty spot, and the Italian put her second of the season into the upper-left reaches of the net.

Goldey-Beacom leveled the game at 1-1 on the rush in the 20th minute. Sophomore Angela Lee led the way down the left wing, and eventually laid the ball off for sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri at the top of the penalty area, in front of the right post. Ruggeri made a one-touch feed into the middle of the box for freshman Mariah McQueen, who salted away her first collegiate tally from there.

Franklin Pierce needed just 5:06 to reclaim the lead, in the 25th minute. Under pressure in the left side of the box, sophomore Salome Kerguillec (Landerneau, France) put a soft shot on goal which was mishandled by Goldey-Beacom sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Cashin. Sophomore Delaney Farinha (Preston, Conn.) was on the scene to capitalize, as she had an easy rebound finish at the top of the six-yard box for her first goal of the year.

The Ravens held the 2-1 lead through halftime and then extended it in the 66th minute. Junior Hailey Goodman (Blackstone, Mass.) won the ball just on the Goldey-Beacom side of midfield and kick-started a 3-on-3 rush the other way. She found a seam to put the ball on the feet of Martin as the latter split a pair of defenders. Behind the defense and with only the onrushing Cashin to beat, Martin slotted her first collegiate marker into the middle of the net.

With the outcome largely decided, the two teams traded goals in the final four minutes to create the 4-2 final. In the 87th minute, freshman Mollie Cahalane (Merrimac, Mass.) was hauled down in the left side of the box by sophomore Alyssa Petulla and put the resulting penalty kick into the left side of the net for her third goal of the season. It was the third penalty attempt (2-for-3) in just four games to start the season for the Ravens.

The Lightning got one back on an 89th minute free kick, some 30 yards from goal, on the right side. Sophomore Alex Lowry took the set piece and put the ball to the top of the six-yard box, where Ruggeri was left completely unmarked. It was a relatively simple header finish into the right side of the net for the sophomore, for her second goal of the campaign.

Franklin Pierce continued to split goalkeeping duties on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) made two saves against three shots in the first half, while fellow sophomore Gabby Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) added two saves against three shots in the second half to pick up the win (2-0-0).

Cashin (1-3-0) was under siege at the other end of the field, as she finished with 15 saves against 19 shots in front of the Goldey-Beacom net.

The Ravens have no midweek game on the schedule during the week ahead, as they prepare to launch into their Northeast-10 conference schedule on Saturday, Sept. 10. It's straight into the fire for Franklin Pierce, which pays a visit to two-time defending NE10 champ Saint Rose for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Albany, N.Y.
