Women’s Lacrosse Wraps up Season with 13-6 Loss at No. 5 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 27, 2022) – The Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team hit the road for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup against the No. 5 nationally-ranked Adelphi University Panthers on Wednesday evening. A trio of Ravens found the back of the net two times each in a 13-6 loss in the team's season finale.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce finishes the season at 4-11 (4-9 NE10), while Adelphi improves to 13-1 (10-1 NE10) with one game left to play.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead with three straight goals to open the contest. The first came just 44 seconds in, on a finish by junior Kerrin Heuser, for her 32nd of the season. Graduate student Emily Beier and senior Christina McCabe added tallies of their own at the 5:40 and 6:59 mark, respectively.

The Ravens found the back of the net at the 8:25 mark, thanks to senior Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah) and her team-leading 40th goal of the season to close out the period.

The second quarter went the Panthers' way and again began with three straight goals, including a pair from fifth-year midfielder Izzy Grant to make it 6-1. Franklin Pierce answered right back with three of their own to keep the score close. Graduate student Jenna Cimbron (Bristol, R.I.) scored at the 6:04 mark on an assist from fellow graduate student Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.). Ernst followed with her second of the game at 8:28, and Lounsbury scored one of her own at 9:35, on a free-position shot.

Adelphi added one more, 2:33 before halftime, from junior Fiona Rafferty, with an assist from McCabe, to make it 7-4 at the midway point.

Coming out of the break, the Ravens and Panthers traded two goals apiece in the third. The first belonged to Adelphi and junior Kristina Kallansrude at the 6:50 mark, while a player up. The Ravens then scored twice to bring the score back to within two (8-6). Lounsbury converted on another free-position shot at the 10:14 mark, while Cimbron fired home her second of the game and 25th of the season at 13:12. The Panthers' second goal of the period came on a free-position shot by junior Jamie Mecca.

A four-goal fourth quarter for the Panthers, powered by three more from Kallansrude, helped Adelphi pull away late and finish off the 13-6 win.

Lounsbury (2-1-3) led the Ravens in scoring in her collegiate finale, while Cimbron and Ernst added a pair of goals each. Cimbron filled out her stat line with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while senior Jacklyn Keane (Framingham, Mass.) led the team with eight ground balls.

For Adelphi, McCabe (2-3-5) and Kallansrude (4-0-4) did the heavy lifting on the offensive side of the ball. Senior Kasey Flavin and senior Alexandra Beebe caused five turnovers each, while Flavin also led all players with eight ground balls.

Junior netminder Erin Blake (Southborough, Mass.) started in net for Franklin Pierce, made six saves against 13 shots over 35:43 in the crease, and suffered the loss (0-7). Senior Megan Bacik (Huntington Station, N.Y.) went the rest of the way and stopped 10 of 16 shots. Graduate student Emma Lemanski (13-1) made four saves on 10 shots in front of the Adelphi net.
