Rowing V8+, V4+ Boats Compete At Thomas Jefferson University

Philadelphia, Pa. (4/23/22) – Franklin Pierce University rowing competed against some of the east region's top competition Saturday afternoon, in a meeting that featured host No. 2 Thomas Jefferson University, as well as top ranked Mercyhurst University.

The Ravens participated in two races during the event, racing their Varsity 8+ boat in a dual race versus the opposing two schools. The V8+ lineup, by seat number, consisted of #1 Maura Joseph (Holyoke, Mass.), #2 Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.), #3 Tessa Berry (Andover, Mass.), #4 Bridget Fagan (Millis, Mass.), #5 Taylor Abbott (Gloucester, Mass.), #6 Hannah Lagrassa (Winchendon, Mass.), #7 Jada Fuentes (Lyme, Conn.), and #8 Meg Shawver (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) in the stroke spot. Junior Ali Darling (Unionville, Conn.) called the shots as the coxswain. Franklin Pierce finished the race with a time of 07:36.050, placing third out of three teams overall.

In the second race, the Ravens also raced a pair of V4+ boats head-to-head against Thomas Jefferson, with the v4+ A boat finishing with a second-place finishing time of 7:54.720, and the V4+ B boat completing the rounds with a fourth-place finishing time of 08:12.380. Abbott, Berry, Fuentes and Shawver crewed the V4+ A boat, with Helen Curley-Swannie (Longmeadow, Mass.) serving as the coxswain. The V4+ B boast was manned by Joseph, Fagan, Ostrander and Lagrassa, with Meg Stokes (Milford, Conn.) making the calls in the coxswain seat.

Rowing returns to the water on Saturday, April 30th for the New England Rowing Championships in Worcester, Massachusetts.
