Rowing Obtains First Place Finish at Host Johnson & Wales

Providence, R.I. (4/10/22) – At their second race of the spring season, Franklin Pierce University rowing claimed a first-place finish out of four total teams at host Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday morning.

Three other teams participated in the event, with the Ravens claiming a winning time of 9:58 ahead of second place finisher Simmons College (10:01), third place Johnson & Wales (10:27) and fourth place Bryant University (10:50). Nature provided some challenges for all participants, with winds near 15 miles per hour creating whitecap conditions on the water.

In the solo race, each participating team raced their top V8+ boat.

The Ravens winning V8+ consisted (by seat number) of #1 Maura Joseph (Holyoke, MA), #2 Bridget Fagan (Millis, MA), #3 Tessa Berry (Andover, MA), #4 Emme Ostrander (Westborough, MA), #5 Taylor Abbott (Gloucester, MA), #6 Hannah Lagrassa (Winchendon, MA), #7 Jada Fuentes (Lyme, CT), and #8 Meg Shawver (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Junior Ali Darling (Unionville, CT) served as the coxswain in the winning effort.

Next up, rowing will head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 26th for the East Regional Invitational at host Jefferson University.
