Rowing Opens Spring Season with Split at Tufts University (Malden River)

Medford, Massachusetts (4/2/22) – With the ice officially off the water, Franklin Pierce University rowing competed in their first regatta of the spring season, facing off against three opposing schools at host Tufts University on a windy afternoon at Malden River.

The Ravens V3 8+ team participated in two head-to-head races, splitting the decisions against Tufts and Trinity.

The first of two races featured on the day was the single matchup versus host Tufts. Finishing with a time of 8:11.57, Tufts claimed the decisive victory over Franklin Pierce, who wrapped up with an 8:56.17 finishing time. The lineup for the Ravens included Megan Shawver (Saratoga Springs, NY), Jada Fuentes (Lyme, CT), Hannah LaGrassa (Winchendon, MA), Taylor Abbott (Gloucester, MA), Bridget Fagan (Millis, MA), Tessa Berry (Andover, MA), Emme Ostrander (Westborough, MA) and Maura Joseph (Holyoke, MA) with Ali Darling (Unionville, CT) serving at the Coxswain.

However, the varsity three boat claimed a victory in second race of the day, beating out Trinity College (Hartford, CT) with a winning time of 8:38.85. The Ravens performed with the same crew as the first race, with the exception of junior Helen Curley-Swannie (Longmeadow, MA) calling the shots as the coxswain in the victory.

Rowing will hit the water again on Sunday, April 10th in Providence, Rhode Island for a regatta hosted by Johnson and Wales University.
