Summa Takes First, Leads Men’s Cross Country to Third in Season Opener at UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 17, 2022) -- Junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) not only won the men's five-mile varsity race Saturday for the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team, but he also broke his own school record at the distance by more than 45 seconds. Summa came in nearly a minute ahead of the second-place runner, as he crossed the line in 23:55.

There were 282 runners in the varsity division, representing 35 schools. The Ravens placed third overall at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational, held on the campus of UMass Dartmouth.

Second to finish for the Ravens was graduate student Sebastien Vicary (Ulceby, United Kingdom), who took 13th for his 25:11 finish. Following him was junior Ryan Outerbridge (Paget, Bermuda), who finished in 25:27 to claim 19th. Graduate student Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) ran a time of 26:02 to claim 46th overall. He was accompanied by junior Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.) in 52nd, who raced the 5-mile in 26:16.

Also racing in the varsity division was junior Thomas Darrah (Thetford, Vt.), who took 93rd (26:53) and junior Evan McNeice (Wethersfield, Conn.), who took 127th (27:28).

In the junior varsity five-mile, the men took eighth out of 13 schools. Freshman Declan Morgan (West Springfield, Mass.) was 17th, for his 27:00 performance. He was followed by sophomore Harrison Pelosi (Gloucester, Mass.), who took 49th for his 28:43 time. Sophomore Ntakirutimana Janvier (Burlington, Vt.) took 55th for a time of 28:51. In 94th was sophomore Logan Mihelich (Northwood, N.H.), who crossed the line in 30:54. Sophomore Aiden Healy (Bedford, N.H.) took 115th for his 32:33 time, while freshman Riley Tremblay (Mansfield, Mass.) took 130th for a 35:12 performance.

Ravens cross country will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1, for the Mike Woods Invitational in Geneseo, N.Y.
