(2/2/23) – A grand total of fifteen Franklin Pierce student-athletes from across seven fall sports continued to set the standard in the classroom, and were recently selected to the Northeast-10 Conference’s Academic All-Conference team. The official  announcement came from the league offices on Thursday (2/2/23) afternoon.

NEW ORLEANS, La. (12/1/22) – As the Franklin Pierce men’s cross country team gears up for the upcoming NCAA Championship meet, news broke that junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vermont) was selected as the NCAA Division II East Region Male Athlete of the Year. The announcement came on Wednesday afternoon by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the season.

TO THE LEFT COAST: Summa Claims NCAA East Region Title, Men’s Cross Country Headed to National Championship

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (November 19, 2022) -- For the second time in program history (2013), the Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team is on its way to the NCAA Championship. This time, the Ravens will do so with the individual East Region champion in tow. Junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) put together a 10k time of 31:27 at Bethpage State Park, to best a 146-runner field by more than 10 seconds and become the first in program history to claim the regional crown. Summa’s performance headed what was just a 65-point outing for Franklin Pierce at the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Adelphi, as the Ravens matched their program best with a second-place finish in the 21-team meet.

COLCHESTER, Vt. (November 6, 2022) -- It was a banner day for the Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country program on Sunday, as the Ravens matched a program high-water mark by finishing as the runners-up at the 2022 Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Saint Michael’s. They were bested only by Southern Connecticut State, which was victorious over the 12 other teams who competed in the 8k race. Franklin Pierce had the individual runner-up as well, as second across the line was junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.), who finished the race in only 24:54 to make the podium.

Summa Wins Again, Cross Country Wraps up Regular Season at CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (October 21, 2022) -- It was one final pre-championship tune-up for the Franklin Pierce University cross country program on Friday afternoon, as the Ravens participated at the CCSU Mini-Meet, hosted by Central Connecticut State University at Stanley Park. Junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) was the highlight for the Ravens once again, as he picked up his fourth straight race win with a 14:40 time in the 5k, which was just two seconds shy of the course record, and shattered the Franklin Pierce program record at the distance.

(October 19, 2022) -- Following its meet win over the weekend, the No. 28 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team has had a pair of student-athletes pick up weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. Junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) has been tabbed as NE10 Athlete of the Week, while freshman Declan Morgan (West Springfield, Mass.) has been selected as NE10 Rookie of the Week.

Summa, No. 28 Men’s Cross Country both Take Victory at Kirsh Cup

HOPKINTON, N.H. (October 15, 2022) -- The No. 28 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University men’s cross-country program had yet another strong meet on Saturday, as junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) once again took first place, for the third straight race, this time at the team’s home meet, the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup. Out of 48 runners in the 8k, Summa was the first to cross the line, after 24:17. Overall the team took first out of five teams, to notch its first win of the season, at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.

Summa Wins Again, No. 27 Men’s Cross Country Takes Fifth at Mike Woods Invitational

GENESEO, N.Y. (October 1, 2022) -- Running through the National Warplane Memorial on Saturday, junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) of the No. 27 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team laid down some impressive firepower of his own at the Mike Woods Invitational, hosted by SUNY Geneseo. Atop a massive, 365-runner field in an 8k race, Summa took first place, with a time of 24:40, to post a five-second victory. Summa’s second-straight victory led the Ravens to a fifth-place finish, out of 24 teams.

Men’s Cross Country Tops in East Region, Nationally Ranked for First Time since 2014

NEW ORELANS (September 28, 2022) -- For the first time in eight years, the Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team has a national ranking. The Ravens check in at No. 27 in the country in this week’s national coaches’ poll, conducted by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, Franklin Pierce is the top-ranked team in the East Region in this week’s USTFCCCA regional rankings, a height the squad has not reached since October of 2013.

Summa Takes First, Leads Men’s Cross Country to Third in Season Opener at UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 17, 2022) -- Junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) not only won the men’s five-mile varsity race Saturday for the Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team, but he also broke his own school record at the distance by more than 45 seconds. Summa came in nearly a minute ahead of the second-place runner, as he crossed the line in 23:55.

(September 1, 2022) ‒ Franklin Pierce University and the Department of Athletics is proud to announce its 2022 Hall of Fame class, made up of a pair of program stalwarts, plus the most successful team in the history of the women’s basketball program. Induction weekend for the 2022 Hall of Fame class is set for Oct. 21-22. Following the formal induction ceremony on Friday evening, the inductees will be honored on Saturday afternoon during the Ravens Football game versus Pace University on Sodexo Field.
