Harris Champion in 200, Men’s Track & Field Fourth at NE10 Championship

EASTON, Mass. (May 7, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's track & field program wrapped up its weekend at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Stonehill, on Saturday. Sophomore Stephen Harris (Billerica, Mass.) claimed the NE10 crown in the 200-meter dash to highlight the day for the Ravens, who finished fourth, out of 10 teams.

Franklin Pierce finished with 106 points in the meet, and the fourth-place finish matched the team's performance from the indoor championship in February. Southern Connecticut State claimed its fifth straight NE10 outdoor title with 269 points, to run away from second-place American International (128 points). New Haven (124.5 points) took third.

Sophomore Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.) was named as the Elite 24 Award winner, as the competing athlete with the highest grade-point average. The health sciences major boasts a perfect, 4.0 GPA.

Harris ran hard to claim the 200-meter title with a 21.48-second performance. He also claimed fourth in the high jump for clearing 1.94 meters, and ran 10.75 seconds in the 100-meter dash to take second, as he scored in three separate events. Both is 100- and 200-meter times established new program records.

In the 100, Harris was accompanied by senior Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.), who ran a time of 10.88 seconds to take fifth.

Two Ravens finished on the podium in the steeplechase. Senior Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) took second after running a time of 9:54. Just behind him was sophomore Ntakirutimana Janvier (Burlington, Vt.), who claimed third for his 10:18 performance. Walker took seventh in the 800, after racing a time of 1:58. In the 5k, sophomore Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) took third for a 14:44 finish to put himself on the podium. Just behind him was graduate student Sebastien Vicary (Ulceby, United Kingdom), who placed seventh for his 14:58 time.

The 4x100 team got on the podium as well, as they claimed second for their 41.40-second time, which broke the school record in the event. The runners consisted of sophomore Angel Gonzalez (North Andover, Mass.), Jones, sophomore Nathan Rinaldi (Bristol, Conn.) and Harris. Meanwhile, the 4x400 team of Rinaldi, Jones, Walker and Harris took fifth for their 3:23 performance.

After throwing 39.85 meters, junior Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) took sixth in the discus. Just a bit behind him was senior Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine), who threw 39.09 meters to take seventh. Sophomore Sal Lando (Sterling, Mass.) threw the hammer 44.95 meters to take fourth. He was accompanied by Everidge in fifth, with a 43.71-meter performance, and Albee in eighth, for his 42.42-meter throw. Lando also claimed sixth in the shot put after throwing it 15.10 meters. Everidge threw a distance of 14.71 meters to claim seventh, as he scored in three different throwing events on Saturday alone.

Championship season continues next weekend, with the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Bryant, on May 13-14 in Smithfield, R.I.
