Men's Tennis Stumbles In Season Opener Versus Babson College, 9-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. (9/16/22) - The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team began their fall campaign Friday morning, as opponent Babson College (NEWMAC) swept both the singles and doubles points as they silenced the Ravens by a score of 9-0.

Men's tennis begins the season 0-1 following the loss, with the Division-III Beavers starting strong at 1-0.

Competition opened with Babson winning 8-3 and 8-4 at first and second doubles respectively. From third doubles, graduate Ethan Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Paul McLellan (Nairobi, Kenya) put up a battle for five points scored against the Babson pairing of Wesley Zhang and Jose Gonzalez, but ultimately fell 8-5 in the closest of the three matchups.

In singles play, seniors Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Paul McLellan (Nairobi, Kenya) each fell to their opponents 6-2, 6-3. In third singles, Nkrumah Patrick kept things close in the opening set versus Babson's Brady Anderson, battling to a 7-5 tiebreaker, with the 6-4 loss in the second. In the remaining two matchups, the Ravens were outdueled 6-1 in three out of the final four sets.

Men's Tennis gears up for their four day trip to the ITA East Region Championships in Flushing, N.Y. beginning on Thursday September 22nd.
