Men's Tennis Eliminated in Semifinal Round With 4-0 Loss at #1 Le Moyne

Syracuse, N.Y. (4/28/22) – The fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Le Moyne College in the NE10 Championship semifinal round on Thursday afternoon.

Following the loss, Franklin Pierce is eliminated from tournament play and finishes the 2022 season with a 7-9 record. Le Moyne advances to the tournament championship round for the second straight year, improving to a 20-1 overall record with the win. Le Moyne is also seeking its second-straight tournament title with a matchup against No. 2 Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, April 30th.

Le Moyne secured the only available point from doubles with a pair of wins, with the opening finish at first doubles from graduate Tom Jarry and junior Ethan Miller, winning by a score of 6-2.  Shortly to follow, brothers Jared and James Howard secured a 6-3 victory at third doubles, claiming the point for the Dolphins as well as closing out doubles competition.

The Ravens put up a fight in singles matchups, despite Le Moyne claiming the three victories necessary to seal the deal. At fourth singles, Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) kept things close with Le Moyne opponent Peter Hatton, forcing a tiebreaker in the opening set as well as a two-point difference in the second, losing by tight-nit scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Fourth singles was the deciding match in the effort.

The Dolphins would claim their victories in second and sixth singles, leaving the first three rounds unfinished. However, two of the three were advancing to be played to a third set, with Raven victories in each. At first, graduate Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) battled back for a second set 6-3 victory, and Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France) opened his matchup with a win by the same score. The match would end prior to the tiebreaking sets.
