Cervera Anchel Boosts Men's Soccer Past Nyack College, 2-0

NEW YORK, N.Y. (8/27/22) – Graduate midfielder Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain) registered a goal and an assist to lead Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over host Nyack College in a non-conference afternoon matchup.

With the win, men's soccer improves to 2-0 on the season and concludes their season starting road trip. Nyack falls to their first loss of the season (0-1)

Through an offensively quiet first half for both squads, Franklin Pierce finished the first 45 minutes with an 11-3 shots advantage over the Warriors. Nearing the tail end of the half, the Warriors also fell victim to a pair of yellow cards, with each handed out just over a minute apart.

Junior midfielder Vincente Valor Martinez (San Juan, Spain) officially broke the silence for the Ravens at 53:42 after cleaning up a rebound off an initial shot from Cervera Anchel, which deflected off the post and found Martinez wide open. Just over 20 minutes later, Cervera Anchel increased the lead to 2-0 after receiving a pass off a steal from sophomore Braudillio Rodrigues (Lisbon, Potugal), which proved to be the game winner for Franklin Pierce.

Kosta Maniatis (Montreal, Quebec) patrolled the goal for the Ravens once again, making five saves for his second win on the season, and his second straight shutout.

Men's Soccer returns to campus for their season opener at Sodexo Field on Tuesday, August 30th where they will host visiting St. Thomas Aquinas at 3PM.
