Early Deficit Muffles Men's Lacrosse at #4 Adelphi University, 17-7

Garden City, N.Y. (4/16/22) – Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse had a rough go of it in a road matchup at #4 Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Panthers by a lopsided final score of 17-7. Owen McCormack (Hampstead, N.H.) and Nathaniel Girardin (Brunswick, Maine) each posted a pair of goals in the effort, with Girardin adding an assist to lead the team with three points on the afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce slides to 6-4 (3-4 NE10) on the season, having lost three straight matchups. Adelphi remains perfect with the victory, jumping to 11-0 (8-0 NE10) following the win.

Adelphi sprinted right out of the gate in the first quarter, putting up seven unanswered goals from seven different players to complicate matters for the Ravens.  To open the second quarter, Sean Daly (Kingston, Mass.) found the back of the net off a blistering shot from up top, opening the scoring for Franklin Pierce. After a man-up response from Adelphi, McCormack secured his first goal of the contest to try and ignite some energy for the Ravens. Adelphi would refuse to let up for the remainder of the half, posting three more goals to close the second quarter leading 11-2.

The Ravens would strike with two unassisted tallies in the third quarter, with McCormack finalizing his two-goal performance, and senior Stephen Ell (Peabody, Mass.) scoring his first goal in two games.

Franklin Pierce would end up outscoring the Panthers in the final quarter, beginning with back-to-back goals from Nathaniel Girardin. Adelphi would finalize the score with another two goals in retaliation, with the final Ravens goal belonging to freshman Jackson Hale (Kensington, N.H.), claiming his fourth of the season with goals in two straight games.

Mike Masterpolo (Kingston, Mass.) made six saves on 17 shots in his fourth straight start, and was relieved by senior goalkeeper Tim Perlin (Swampscott, Mass.), who finished with six saves on 11 shots.

Men's Lacrosse pushes forward to their final three games of the regular season, returning home on Saturday, April 23rd for an in-state matchup with visiting Southern New Hampshire University at 3PM.
