Men’s Ice Hockey opens NE10 Play with 4-1 win at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 4, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team came ready to rock and roll at the Worcester Ice Center as the Ravens played their first Northeast-10 Conference game of the 2022-2023 season. Franklin Pierce picked up a 4-1 over the defending Northeast-10 Champions, the Assumption Greyhounds, courtesy of four different goal-scorers. Sophomore Ryan Bailey (Atlanta, Ga.) notched his first collegiate goal in the second period, which stood as the game-winner.

With the win, the Ravens move to 3-0-0 (1-0-0 NE10), while the Greyhounds fall to 1-2-0 (0-1-0 NE10). The two teams will wrap up their weekend set on Saturday at 7:20 p.m. at Worcester Ice Center.

In the first period, The Ravens got the opening goal on the power play, at the 9:53 mark. Junior Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Vito Carlo (Las Vegas, Nev.) set up the offense, and Lawler took the initial shot on the left side. Senior Jason Ladzinski (Norcross, Ga.) scored his first goal of the campaign on the rebound. The Ravens outshot the Greyhounds in the opening stanza, 15-6.

The game went without another goal until the third period, when the Greyhounds evened things up early. Just 1:45 into the period, freshman forward Ryan Decker was sprung towards the net on the rush, deked to the left post and put a shot past graduate student goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) for his second of the year.

Just under five minutes later, at 6:22, junior Cody Rumsey (York, Pa.) brought the puck into the offensive zone and passed it off to Bailey on the left side. Bailey's shot clearly fooled Assumption junior goaltender Thomas McLarnon and put the Ravens ahead to stay.

Ravens scored two empty-net goals in the final 100 seconds to seal the win. Stephen Jacobs (Hingham, Mass.) scored from the right-wing faceoff dot in his own end at 18:21, to make it 3-1. Lawler provided the capper at 19:57, after Conor Foley (Nahant, Mass.) cleared the puck down the length of the ice. Lawler beat out the icing and tapped the puck into the empty net.

Martin (3-0-0) made 35 saves against 36 shots on goal to pick up the win in the Franklin Pierce crease. McLarnon (0-1-0) made 32 saves against 36 shots at the other end of the ice for Assumption.
