Baseball’s Amendola Earns Academic All-District Honors from CoSIDA

CoSIDA Academic All-District selections

RINDGE, N.H. (June 1, 2018) – Senior right-hander John Amendola (Wallingford, Conn.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team, as announced earlier this spring by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). As a result of the selection, Amendola advances to the Academic All-America ballot.

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

It is the second career CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for Amendola. It is the third straight season the baseball program has had at least one student-athlete honored by CoSIDA.

Amendola recently wrapped up his third year at Franklin Pierce after transferring in from Division I Northeastern, and held a 3.80 GPA as a business major when Academic All-District nominations were submitted, which was before the spring semester was completed. In 15 appearances on the mound this spring, including 13 starts, he recorded 79 strikeouts over 91.2 innings of work, which amounts to 7.76 strikeouts per nine innings. He allowed 36 runs (29 earned) on 90 hits and walked just eight against the 79 strikeouts on the way to a 2.85 ERA and a 6-2 record with one save. The 91.2 innings pitched were good for second in the NE10, while Amendola also ranked 10th in strikeouts, 14th in ERA and 18th in strikeouts per nine innings.

The Ravens (33-15-1) returned to the NCAA Championship this spring for the 14th time in school history. The 2018 campaign marked 17 straight seasons of 30 or more wins for the program.
