RINDGE, N.H. (April 11, 2017) – Back-to-back home runs from junior first baseman Dalton Davis (Birmingham, Ala.) and freshman designated hitter Dylan Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) in the fourth inning put the Franklin Pierce University baseball team on top to stay on Tuesday night at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. The two blasts were part of a 13-hit attack, as the Ravens posted a 10-1 win over visiting Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 17-9 (9-3 NE10, 5-1 NE Div.), while Saint Michael's falls to 0-11 (0-11 NE10, 0-5 NE Div.). The two teams will complete their three-game season series on Wednesday, May 3, when they meet for a doubleheader at Pappas Field.

After the first three innings went scoreless, Franklin Pierce jumped out front with four runs in the home half of the fourth. Junior catcher Stephen Octave (New Windsor, N.Y.) hit a sharp ground ball up the middle, which glanced off the glove of a diving shortstop and into center field for a leadoff single, setting the table for Davis. Davis took an 0-1 pitch and drove it an estimated 375 feet the other way to left-center for his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot. Jones was next and laced a 3-1 pitch over the fence in straightaway left to make it back-to-back homers and push the lead to 3-0. Jones' first collegiate home run was estimated at 360 feet.

Two batters later, senior second baseman Kyle Hood (Arlington, Mass.) got things started again with a single to center field. He moved to second on a broken-bat single to left by freshman shortstop Joe Napolitano (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), went to third on a balk and scored on a sacrifice fly to deep right-center field by senior center fielder Lucas Luopa (Keene, N.Y.).

Saint Michael's picked up its only run of the night in the top of the sixth to cut the gap to 4-1. With one out, sophomore catcher Joe Robertson singled to center and then advanced to second on an errant pickoff throw. Three batters later, he came around to score on a single back through the middle and into center field by sophomore first baseman Sean Winthrop.

Franklin Pierce broke the game wide open and created the 10-1 final with six runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Ravens sent 11 men to the plate and collected five hits, while also capitalizing on one Saint Michael's error. Octave, Jones and Napolitano each had RBI singles in the frame, while one run scored on a passed ball and another scored on an error.

Senior right-hander Miles Sheehan (Madison, Conn.) -- who is working his way back from injury -- made an abbreviated, 44-pitch (26 strikes) start and did not factor in the decision for Franklin Pierce. He did not allow a run, surrendered three hits, walked two and struck out three. Senior right-hander Ben Collincini (Freehold, N.J.) took over from there and threw the next 3.2 innings to pick up the win (2-0). He allowed one run on two hits, hit one batter and struck out four. Four Ravens pitchers combined to record 11 strikeouts on the night.

Junior right-hander Patrick Martin (0-1) took the ball for Saint Michael's and threw 57 pitches (36 strikes) over the first four innings. He was charged with four runs on seven hits, hit a batter, threw a wild pitch, balked once and struck out one.

The Ravens are right back at it on Wednesday, as they remain home to host Saint Anselm in an NE10 Northeast Division contest. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at Pappas Field.
