HADLEY, Mass. – University of Massachusetts rowing will host the inaugural Hadley Chase Regatta on Sat., Oct. 14 along the Connecticut River. The regatta will contain both sweep and sculling events for male and female collegiate teams in the northeast in addition to open events for masters rowers to compete.

Racing will begin at 8:30 a.m. and a final schedule will be available in the coming days. A total of 12 women's programs and six men's teams are slated to compete in events including singles, pairs, quads and eights.

"With the expansion of rowing in recent years, and the high entry demand for head races in the northeast such as the Head of the Charles and Head of the Housatonic, we are looking to create a regatta that can comfortably host collegiate programs in the Northeast," said associate head coach Andrea Landry (Morand). "Our goal in our first year is to provide a safe, fair regatta on our gorgeous river here in Hadley with the hopes of increasing interest each year to additional collegiate programs and eventually youth programs."

Parking for fans will be unavailable on site. A shuttle bus for those attending the regatta will run from the Hadley Village Barn Shops (located at 41 Russell Street) to the UMass Rowing Boathouse. Shuttles will be available every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. through the end of racing.

Spectators can enjoy the best viewpoint of the regatta near the finish line at the UMass Rowing Boathouse. In addition, crews will row underneath the Connecticut River Rail Bridge along the Norwottuck Rail Trail; fans can watch races from the bridge.
