HOPKINTON, N.H. (October 20, 2018) – After two weeks off, the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team returned to action on Saturday, as the team hosted the sixth annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Junior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) finished 35th, in a 124-runner field, to lead the Ravens to a ninth-place finish, out of 11 teams.

Cormier posted a 5k time of 20:10.2, to lead three Ravens among the top 50 finishers. She was followed by sophomore Daijanique White (Hartford, Conn.) in 46th (20:37.0) and freshman Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) in 48th (20:44.7).

"Julia Cormier led the ladies today, and keeps racing better and better," said head coach Zach Emerson after the meet. "I look forward to seeing what she can do individually in the next few weeks [heading into championship season]."

Junior Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) was the next Raven across the finish line, and placed just outside the top 50, as she claimed 51st (20:53.0). Sophomore Lauren Stankiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's scoring five in 82nd place (21:48.1).

It all added up to 223 points for the Ravens, who finished ninth. Stonehill (40 points) took home the team title, followed by Merrimack in second (82 points) and Saint Anselm in third (108 points).

The Ravens have another open weekend next weekend, before hosting the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.
