Women’s Cross Country Places 18th at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (September 29, 2017) – It was three runners in the top 100 on Friday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team, which finished 18th (of 32 teams) at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University.

The three top-100 finishes led the Ravens to a score of 470 points on the day. Franklin Pierce finished 31 points behind Roanoke (439 points) for 17th place and was 103 points from a top-15 finish. Up front, Wesleyan (69 points) took home the title, with Gettysburg (104 points) second and American International (174 points) third.

"The women did great, despite holding out Marissa Farago due to illness," said head coach Zach Emerson after the meet. "Cormier stepped up and Marisa Carbone ran out of her mind as our fourth runner today. The girls ran very tough!"

For sophomore Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.), it was a 6k time of 23:59 to place 56th in the 271-runner field. Joining her in the top 100 for the Ravens were sophomore Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) in 72nd and senior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) in 81st. Zylak clocked in at 24:16, while Davies posted a 24:23.

Freshmen Marisa Carbone (Scarborough, Maine) in 121st (25:16) and Rebecca Cooke (Nottingham, N.H.) in 171st (26:31) rounded out the scoring five for Franklin Pierce on the day. Four of the five scoring Ravens were either freshmen or sophomores, highlighting the team's young talent.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Franklin Park in Boston for the NEICAAA Championships.
