Women’s Cross Country Finishes 34th at NEICAAA Championships

BOSTON (October 8, 2016) – After taking last weekend off, the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team returned to action on Saturday with a 34th place finish -- out of 35 New England teams from across all three divisions -- at the NEICAAA Championships at Franklin Park.

Freshman Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) was the first Raven across the line, placing 174th in the 234-runner field, with a 5k time of 20:13.6. It was nearly another 20 spots back to the only other Franklin Pierce athlete to finish in the top 200, as freshman Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) stopped the clock at 20:49.7 to finish 193rd.

The remainder of Franklin Pierce's scoring five would place outside the top 200 on Saturday. Sophomore Sarah Hart (Glastonbury, Conn.) took 203rd (21:11.0), senior Holly Lindoe (Holbrook, N.Y.) placed 207th (21:35.6) and junior Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished 208th (21:40.5).

It all added up to 981 points and a 34th-place finish for the Ravens. Up front, University of New Hampshire (71 points) claimed the New England title by 66 points over Harvard (137 points). Vermont (152 points) in third, Northeastern (157 points) in fourth and MIT (159 points) in fifth rounded out the top five. Stonehill senior Nicole Borofski turned in a time of 17:28.7 to take home the individual crown, bettering Northeastern senior Jordan O'Dea (17:43.9) by 15 seconds.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they travel to the Northeast-10 Championship, hosted by Stonehill in Easton, Mass.
