BOSTON, Mass. (November 10, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s cross country team capped its 2013 season Sunday with a respectable 17th-place showing out of 26 teams at the NCAA East Regional Championship at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.

The Ravens totaled 448 points, as Stonehill (57 points) won the women’s race, while Bentley (105) and Merrimack (149) rounded out the top-three teams in the event.

Franklin Pierce’s 17th-place finish was a four-spot improvement from last year’s showing of 21st place at the regional championship. The improvement is quite impressive considering the Ravens are competing in just their second season following the program being given added emphasis prior to the 2012 campaign. This year’s squad was comprised entirely of either freshmen or sophomores.

One of the sophomores, Doria Brown (Little Falls, N.J.), was top finisher for the Ravens on the afternoon, as she turned in a strong 36th-place finish out of 181 competitors in a time of 23:58.9. Brown served as one of the pillars for a young Ravens’ squad in 2013, as Sunday’s performance marked the fourth time this year she was the top finisher for the team in a race.

Classmate Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.), who was coming off an outstanding performance two weeks ago at the Northeast-10 Championship when she earned all-conference honors, followed that up with another strong run of 24:35.2 to finish in 57th place at the regional.

Sophomore Lauren Clum-Russell (Saco, Maine) just barely finished outside the top-100, as she placed 104th with a mark of 25:54.3.

The other two Raven harriers to count towards the team score were rookie Holly Lindoe (Holbrook, N.Y.) in 125th (26:29.2), and sophomore Shannon Lozier (Merrimac, Mass.) in 144th (27:20.1).
