RINDGE, N.H. (October 13, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was dropped in straight sets Saturday afternoon suffering a 3-0 (12-25, 14-25, 19-25) setback to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Adelphi University. With the win, the Panthers improve to 18-5, 7-1 NE10 while the Ravens lost their eighth league showdown.

The Panthers were led by senior outside hitter McKenna Clawson who recorded game-highs in kills (16) and hitting percentage (.652) while tallying eight digs on the defensive end and one service ace. Junior outside hitter Sarah Bisbe ranked second in kills on the team with eight while contributing a match-best 10 digs on defense.

For the Ravens, junior outside hitter Sarah Roach (Provo, Utah) paced their offensive attack with a team-high nine kills. Brittney Carias (Burlingame, Calif.) had seven digs on defense. FPU had trouble with Adelphi's service as they committed 12 reception errors.

In the first set after trailing 4-1, the Ravens came within one point 4-3 when Roach drilled an attack attempt for a kill at the left pin assisted by Carias. The Panthers went on a 7-2 scoring binge to take an 11-5 lead. After a Raven timeout, FPU responded as they've done the majority of the time this year with a point coming from Cierra Dolan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Trailing 14-6, FPU notched four consecutive points with two of them off a Carias ace and a dual block by Dolan and Abigail Garnhart (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to cut into the lead at 14-10. Adelphi would outscore the Ravens 11-2 over the rest of the set.

A Sarah Bisbe attack error and another Carias ace gave the Ravens the early 2-0 edge. Cara McKenzie quickly turned momentum back to the guest side by stuffing a Garnhart attack at the net. Three straight from the Ravens including a Jocelyn Moody (Biddeford, Maine) kill regained the advantage towards the Ravens. Adelphi would put the set away via a 13-2 scoring binge capped off by a Bisbe kill to lead 17-8 late.

Adelphi started fast in the third moving ahead 6-2. Lauren Herrera (Simi Valley, Calif.) moved to setter and connected with classmate Breanna Mineweaser (Honey Brook, Pa.) to make it a two-score game, 7-5. The Panthers stormed ahead to take a 17-7 lead midway through the set, but the Ravens continued to battle. Five in a row by Pierce which included two Dolan kills and a Carias ace brought the deficit down to five 17-12. Adelphi gained those five points immediately back and led 22-12. The Panthers halted one last Raven charge to complete the sweep.

The Ravens head out on the road for a lone game next week when they take on Assumption College, Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
