Three Student Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

Franklin Pierce University athletes Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) of the field hockey team, Katie Leidhold (Acushnet, Mass.) of the volleyball team and Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand) of the men’s soccer team have all earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Honors it was announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

After starting the season 0-4 and enduring a five match losing streak during the middle stretch of the campaign, the no. 3 Franklin Pierce University volleyball team won six of their last seven matches to earn a trip to the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals versus the no. 3 University of New Haven Chargers. Both squads squared off on Tuesday evening and the host Chargers advanced to the league semifinals with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20) win over the Ravens.

The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-14) victory over Northeast-10 Conference foe Pace University on Senior Day Saturday in the Fieldhouse. The win, FPU’s sixth of their last seven games pushes them to 12-14, 8-6 NE-10 and the loss sends the Setters to 22-8, 8-6 NE-10.

Abigail Sonuga (Haverhill, Mass.) chalked up 15 kills and a .500 hitting percentage as the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team won their fifth game in their last six contests with a 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16) decision over Northeast-10 Conference opponent Adelphi on Friday night in the Fieldhouse.

The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team’s four game winning streak ended on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 14-25, 20-25) setback to Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International. With the loss, the Crimson and Grey will drop to 10-14, 6-6 NE-10 and the win, the Yellow Jackets seventh straight, move them to 23-5, 10-3 NE-10.

The win improves the Crimson and Grey to 10-13, 6-5 NE-10 and the loss drops the Greyhounds to 5-17, 2-10 NE-10.

The victory moves the Ravens to 9-13, 5-5 NE-10 and the loss drops the Purple Knights to 3-12, 1-9 NE-10.

With the win, the Ravens move to 8-13 and 4-5 in the conference, the loss drops the Owls to 14-13 and 4-7 in league play.

Sophomore Katie Leidhold (Acushnet, Mass.) recorded a career-high 35 digs and added 23 kills, but it wasn't enough as Le Moyne College rallied from a two set deficit to defeat Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 8-15) in Saturday afternoon matinee volleyball at Ted Grant Court. With the victory, the Dolphins move to 17-5, 7-2 NE-10 and the Ravens slide to 6-13, 2-5 NE-10 with the loss.

After a sweep of Merrimack on Tuesday, the Franklin Pierce volleyball team returned to action and was defeated by Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Rose 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 17-25) Friday night at the Daniel P. Nolan Gym. The loss dropped the Crimson and Grey to 6-12, 2-4 NE-10 and the Golden Knights improve to 8-10, 3-4 NE-10 with the victory.

The Franklin Pierce women’s volleyball team was swept 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 24-26) by Northeast-10 Conference opponent Stonehill College Saturday afternoon in The Fieldhouse. The loss, the Ravens fifth in a row, drops them to 5-11 and 1-3 in the conference while the Skyhawks improve to 8-9 and 3-3 in league play.
