Volleyball blanked at home against Dowling 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. (November 7, 2014) – Senior Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) threw down 11 kills on the night, but it wasn't enough to stop the train that was the Dowling College Golden Lions as they took the win 3-0 in a non-conference matchup at the Fieldhouse.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce drops to 14-12 (7-6 Northeast-10), while Dowling clinches their 20th win of the season and improve to 20-9 (13-3 ECC).

The Ravens were slow from the start, giving up a significant lead to begin the game and could not recover. The Ravens would lose the first set 25-18, and would find the same result in the second and third sets. Franklin Pierce would drop the second set 25-14 and the third set 25-18. Defense lacked while Dowling came on strong with solid defense and a well-executed offense.

Behind Swiderski's double-kill night was freshman Madison Klusendorf (Santa Maria, Calif.) who ended with a second-best six kills while hitting a team-best .208 on the night. Freshman setter Hannah Runge (Deltona, Fla.) scattered 22 assists and two service aces, while defensively classmate Hannah St. Jean (Olympia, Wash.) had a hand in three of the teams five blocks. Junior libero Sarah MacHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) dug up 13 digs, while Swiderski chipped in with nine.

For the Golden Lions, sophomore Katarzyna Klocek led all players with 14 kills on the night, while teammate Elizabeth Gorman finished in double-figures as well with 11. Junior Kayla Dillman was the recipient of a great offensive day for Dowling, as she ended up with 39 assists on the game. Defensiely, the Golden Lions had three in double-figure digs, as junior libero Kayla Morgan led that department with 18, while both Nicole Parkas and Jessica Kalbfleisch added 14 apiece.

The Ravens will return to the court tomorrow for their final regular season game of the season as they play host to Southern Connecticut State Owls at 3 p.m. in the Fieldhouse. Franklin Pierce will honor their lone senior Catie Swiderski before the match.
