Volleyball continues road struggles, trounced by Saint Rose 3-0

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 1, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens volleyball team had a tough first day of November on Saturday, as the Ravens could not get rid of road lag from Syracuse the night before. They took a hard loss against the Saint Rose Golden Knights by a final of 3-0.

The Ravens came out slow after the long drive, dropping the first set 25-17. It would be the best competition they would put together all day, as the Golden Knights owned game play the rest of the way through. Saint Rose would win the second set 25-14, and finally wrapped up the Ravens in the third set 25-7.

The top Raven on the day was senior Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.), who ended with five kills, while sophomores Aiden Garcia (Eagle Pass, T.X.) (4) and Kelsey Hausman (Sandy, Utah) (1), and freshman Hannah St. Jean (Olympia, Wash.) (2) were the only other Ravens to record a kill on the day. Defensively, the Ravens were led by junior Sarah MacHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) with 14 digs.

For the Golden Knights, Maryellen Devic led the way with 13 kills, while Tori Daniels tossed around a match-high 21 assists in aiding the Saint Rose victory. Erica Ziskin also chipped in with 12 assists of her own. Defensively, Katy Daniels (14) and Arianna Wilson (12) led the way in digs, while Maddy Halverson had a hand in four of the Golden Knights six blocks on the match.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, November 7 when they return to the friendly confines of The Fieldhouse to take on Dowling at 7 p.m.
