Volleyball cruises to 3-0 sweep over Saint Michael’s

RINDGE, N.H. (September 30, 2014) – Sophomore Aiden Garcia (Eagle Pass, T.X.) and senior Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) combined for 25 kills Tuesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University Ravens swept Saint Michael's College 3-0.

The Ravens held control throughout, winning all three sets in commanding fashion. Saint Michael's would add some pressure late in the first and third sets, but the Ravens were ultimately able to hold down the fort. Franklin Pierce won the first set 25-21, before taking the second set 25-16. Finally, the Ravens would clinch the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.

Garcia would finish with a team high 13 kills, while Swiderski threw down 12 of her own. Recently named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week and freshman Hannah Runge (Deltona, Fla.) was the recipient of a great night from the Ravens offensively, dishing out 33 assists. Defensively, the Ravens looked sharp, as both junior Sarah MacHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) and sophomore Kelsey Hausman (Sandy, Utah) recorded double-figure digs. MacHugh scooped 15 while Hausman chipped in with 10.

Hausman also added three service aces to her resume for the night, while freshman Hannah St. Jean (Olympia, Wash.) was a monster at the net, recording three solo blocks in the match.

For Saint Michael's, Megan Priester led the way offensively with seven kills, while Kelsey Flaherty finished right behind with six. Catie Weller tossed out 22 assists, while defensively, Natalie Moore dug up 13 digs to lead the Purple Knights in that category. Candace Washington also had a big day up front, having a hand in all three blocks for Saint Michael's.

The Ravens improve to 7-6 (2-1 Northeast-10) and take the court next on Friday, when they take on New York Tech at home in the Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
