Franklin Pierce Falls To Bryant, 3-1, At NE-10 Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (November 3, 2006)
– Sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce suffered a tough 3-1 loss
(22-30, 25-30, 30-27, 21-30) to third-seeded Bryant University in
the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament at the
Chace Center this evening.
Senior Jessica Cegarra (Danville, N.H./Timberlane) led the Bryant
attack, posting a match-high 17 kills and six blocks. Freshman
Morgan Wood (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) hit a match-high .385
percent for the Bulldogs with 12 kills and four blocks. Sophomore
Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass./Barnstable) lead the Bulldogs
defensively, chipping in with 23 digs.
Sophomore Nicole Buchholz
(Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) led all Franklin Pierce hitters
posting a team-high .344 hitting percentage en route to 13 kills
and five blocks. Freshman Caitlynn
Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) tallied a double-double
performance with ten kills and ten digs, while classmate Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena,
Calif./South Pasadena) registered ten kills and a team-high
seven blocks.
Franklin Pierce setter, sophomore Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo,
Calif./Camarillo) collected 40 assists and eight digs in the
match, while senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre
Wellington) led the Ravens defensively with a match-high 25
digs.
Franklin Pierce (18-10, 9-5 NE-10) awaits its NCAA Northeast
Regional bid or its Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Tournament fate as the decision will be made by the regional
committee on Sunday afternoon. Bryant University (21-17, 12-2
NE-10) will be in action again tomorrow as it takes on
second-seeded Bentley College in the Northeast-10 Tournament
semi-finals at 2 p.m.
