LOWELL, MASS. (October 21, 2006)
– Franklin Pierce earned a split decision in a volleyball
tri-match this afternoon at Costello Gym. The Ravens suffered a
tough 3-2 loss (30-20, 30-27, 26-30, 32-34, 13-15) to Queens
College in the opening match, before rebounding with a 3-0 sweep
(30-25, 30-26, 30-17) over conference rival UMass Lowell in match
two.

Franklin Pierce posted a season-high 23 blocks, but fell to Queens
College, 3-2 in match one of today’s tri-match.
Queens College senior Karin Sauer (Schleiden, Germany/Schleiden)
led all hitters, posting 22 kills, 23 digs and six service aces,
while sophomore Natalie Edward (Castries, St. Lucia/St.
Joseph’s Convent) collected 17 kills. Senior setter Dawn
Richardson (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) handed out 58 assists
in the win.
Sophomore Nicole Buchholz
(Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) led the Franklin Pierce attack,
hitting a te
am-best .500 pct. with 12 kills and eight blocks. Freshman Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian
SHS) was also solid recording 12 kills and nine digs, while
classmate Megan Feldmeth (South
Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) notched eight kills and a
season-high 12 blocks.
Sophomore setter Karissa
Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) dished 48 assists to
go with 20 digs and three blocks and senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre
Wellington) chipped in with 28 digs defensively.
Sophomore Nicole Buchholz posted a .500 hitting percentage with 12
kills in match one vs. Queens College.

In match two, Franklin Pierce rebounded with a 3-0,
non-conference, sweep over UMass Lowell.
Franklin Pierce freshmen Caitlynn
Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) and Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian
SHS) led the Ravens attack, combining for 28 kills in the
match. Parnell totaled 14 kills and four digs, while Ristow added
double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Kelly Mahoney (Wakefield, R.I./South
Kingstown) was also a bright spot for the Ravens, totaling
eight kills and four blocks.
Sophomore captain Karissa
Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) tallied 40 assists
to pace the Raven offense while, while senior libero Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre
Wellington) collected 28 digs defensively.
Franklin Pierce (16-8, 8-4 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday
as it hosts Bryant University at 7 p.m. Queens College (9-7, 4-3
ECC) will participate in the Mayaguez Tournament this weekend held
in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. UMass Lowell (12-14, 7-4 NE-10 ) will
host the University of Bridgeport tomorrow at 2 p.m.
