Toscano All-New England Performance Highlights Day One at NEICAAA Championships for Women’s Track & Field

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (May 12, 2017) – In the final meet of her collegiate career, senior Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) became the first jumper in the history of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team to earn a top-three medal at the New England Championships, as she finished third in the long jump to earn All-New England honors. She was among four Ravens to participate on Friday at the first day of the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Williams College.

Toscano -- the daughter of Ravens jumps coach Tim Toscano -- put together a school-record leap of 5.55 meters in her very first jump of the day, which would hold up for third place. The All-New England performance earned six points for Franklin Pierce as well. The distance is currently good enough for fifth in the East Region.

Elsewhere on Friday, Franklin Pierce also got a school-record performance from freshman Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) in the 10,000 meters to cap the day. Cormier finished 10th, with a run of 39:14.55, which currently ranks ninth in the East Region.

Two other Ravens also partook in the first day of the two-day New England Championships. In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Catherine Purves (Dalkeith, Scotland) finished 13th, with a time of 1:03.62. In the hammer throw, junior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 24th, with a throw of 44.03 meters.

The NEICAAA Championships will conclude on Saturday at Williams.
